Game Description

In this run down table-top horror, a conniving, player-stimulating prisoner is your final foe. Before you are 2 gas pipes that can be commanded to flip (towards you or your opponent) using 2 red hand-wheels. If both pipes face either player at the same time, that player will be forced to ingest a heap of sweet, sedating N20… “Laughing Gas”.

Amid this twisted recreation of the prisoner's dilemma, you have five chances to succeed, tracked by the number on your life-gauge. Your only goal is to ensure that both pipes face your opponent at all times… But beware: learning, adapting, and challenging you with your own techniques, the prisoner will prove that you’re not so different from one another. Be cautious with your strategies, it has a knack for patterns.

This is a team project that was developed in 48 Hours for the 2024 Global Game Jam. The theme for this year was “Make Me Laugh”.

Game Mechanics

Valve Turning

This is the only action the Player can do while playing the game. Turn the Valves or don’t, it’s your choice as long as they don’t both end up facing you. Both Valves are buttons the Player can click to set them to turn or not.

Life Points

The Player and the AI have 5 Life Points meaning they can only get “Gassed” 5 times. The values are displayed in two gauges, as the value increases the Player’s vision will warp and turn yellow, while the AI’s dialogue will become more deranged.

What I Learned

  1. Getting the most out of a single mechanic.

  2. How to work under severe time constraints while maximizing game quality.
